- Hi Caro,
-
- CG> I'm happy and glad to meet a Canadian-Chinese born in HongKong and
- CG> living in Calgary. I've read a few of your messages before and it
- CG> sounds to me that you're a funny guy. Aren't you ?
-
- Am I? Really? I must've been on cheap drugs! (just kidding) It's
- just that very seldom people would relate me with the word "funny".
- Oh, now I remember! You must've read my letters to Carolynne
- Trajcevski, right? Yeah, I collect ladybugs (beetles) in the summer,
- they're nice pets. All it requires is a little bit of grass,
- dandilions and moisture. I released them all a few weeks ago since
- winter was starting back then. I actually missed them very much!
- Talk about eccentric behaviours, huh?
-
- CG> What a lot of difficult languages you speak ! For myself, I only
- CG> speak French, a little English and I begin to learn Dutch. What
- CG> nationality do you have ? How old were you when you left HongKong ?
-
- Not bad for you too! I only wish I could speak French. Since one of
- Canada's offical language is French, most school starts teaching French
- in elememtary classes. Therefore, sometimes I feel sort of left out
- when most of my classmate have at least a basic French background while
- I can't even handle normal conversational French efficiently.
-
- Well, our family immigrated to Canada on April's Fools Day (April 1st),
- 1989, when I was 14 (my birthday is on April 11th, 1974). So I've been
- here for roughly 3 and a half years. I just became Canadian citizen on
- Canada Day (July 1st) this summer. Therefore, I have 2 nationalities:
- both British (since HongKong is a British colony) and Canadian.
-
- CG> I like listening music too, particularly Queen. I also begin to
- CG> learn flute and also practice a few sports.
-
- If you were to ask me for my favourite singer, I'd say Sting has always
- been my first pick. I'm always intoxicated by the poetic lyrics and
- imagery in his songs:
-
- "If blood will flow and fresh and steel are one
- Drying in the colour of the evening sun
- Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
- But something in our mind will always stay
-
- Perhaps this final act was meant
- To clinch a lifetime's argument
- That nothing comes from violence
- And nothing ever could
- For all those born beneath an angry star
- Lest we forget how fragile we are
-
- On and on the rain will fall
- Like tears from the star Like tears from the star
- On and on the rain will say
- How fragile we are How fargile we are"
-
- - "Fragile" from the album "Nothing Like the Sun" by Sting.
-
- I hope I didn't bore you to death. I usually get carried away so often
- when I talk about his songs since I'm a "Sting fanatic".
-
- CG> Gee ! You've heard about Belgian chocolates ! They are the best in
- CG> the whole wide world :-)) ) ) What a greedy guy you are, it isn't a
- CG> way to become a slim person !!!
-
- There's no doubt about it. I was addicted to it when I finished my first
- box. So much so that I begged my parents for a one way plane ticket to
- Brussels! (just kidding) But seriously, I was really down for a few
- hours after I finished up the whole box by myself - I regretted that I
- ate it so quickly. I'm glad that I don't have to worry about my weight
- since I'm pretty slim for my height and I play squash quite frequently.
- BTW, have you ever tried the LA REINE mint pastilles from France, they're
- pretty good too. (chocalates and mints are my favourites)
-
- CG> Not really too bad ! I live in a little village (2 000
- CG> inhabitants), 3 Km from France and very far from big cities (200 Km
- CG> from Brussels).
-
- So you live at the border, how interesting! I just took a look at my
- atlas and found that Florenville is at the very tip of Belgium and also
- close to Luxembourg. Is cross border shopping popular in Florenville?
- It is quite popular here in Calgary since it's located close to the
- Canada-US border. So once in a while, some of my friends go down to
- Monatana State to shop since most of the merchandise are cheaper there.
-
- CG> Please don't speak about weather ... 6 months of rain
- CG> and 6 months of bad weather and during the rest of the time, it's
- CG> really nice <grin> Seriously now, it become cold those times, we
- CG> recently have -6 degrees Cent.
-
- I heard about the rainfalls from my friends who went to Belgium. I
- guess they went at a bad time since the other 6 months is supposed to
- be mild and temperate. -6 degrees isn't all that bad. Here in Calgary,
- the coldest weather can get down to -30 celcius! But then again the
- normal weather is usually around -10 degress in deep winter.
-
- CG> Do you use your own computer or do you use one at school ?
-
- I use my home computer to type messages overseas, and my school doesn't
- have a BBS. How about you? Is "La GAUME" the name of your school's
- BBS?
-
- CG> Thanks, I'll soon send you a postcard of my place.
-
- Thanks a bunch! When my friend was in Europe, she only sent me two
- postcards, one from Heidelberg, Germany and the other one from Versailles,
- France. I'd be most happy to receive a Belgium postcard. If you don't
- mind, you could leave me your address and I'll send you a postcard of
- Calgary.
-
- I saw your message to Dylan Wells and I'm amazed that you can watch Beverly
- Hills 90210 in Florenville. Is it a dubbed version? 90210 is really
- popular in Calgary and all through North America. They started the new
- season premeir this September and they're talking about their Senior (last)
- year in high school. I guess that means there will be no 90210 anymore
- next fall.
-
- Is Halloween and Friday the 13th popular in Belgium? If so, what did you
- do on last Friday? I went to see Dracula (the new one) at the cinema, it
- was pretty good. Yeah, I like horror movies. I also like some French
- movies (with the subscripts of course, since I don't understand French
- very much). Among the French movies, I like "Jean de Florette" the best.
- I also saw the second sequel "Manon Des Sources", but I think the first
- one was done better.
-
- I've written quite a lengthy message, I guess I better stop before you
- start snoring on me <haha>...
-
-
- Sayonara... ("goodbye" in Japanese)
