- Hello Ann,
- So happy to hear from you and your students. My children were extremely
- excited when they received your letters. My class has chosen the format of
- mixing their letters and replies with the information on Cape Breton Island.
- It is -4degrees C and snowing here right now. This is the typical weather for
- this time of year.We did have a cooler summer than normal this year. Our
- summers appear to be similar to yours. Our winters however are much colder. We
- had snow on the ground for a little better than 3 months. I personally had
- to shovel out my driveway over a dozen times. We had snow piled in our
- schoolyard over 10 feet high.It was really a winter wonderland.
- Ann, I was wondering when your school will start its summer break? How
- long is your summer break in New Zealand? Our schools break for the months of
- July and August. My students have discovered another connection that Cape
- Breton has with New Zealand. In the 1800's a Minister by the name of Norman
- MacLeod established a settlement on Cape Breton Island not all that far from
- our school. After a few years he and most of his flock moved to New Zealand
- and settled. There decendants are there to this day. This might make an
- interesting social studies project fot your students.
- hope to hear from you soon...Bob
