- If I may .....
-
- A summary:
-
- What we have here (again) is a basic lack of communication, due to the non-
- specific nature of the english language.
-
- Marriage: 1. A government-recognized contract.
- 2. A religious/social institution.
-
- In regards to marriage as defined by #1, I believe that any two
- consenting, adult people should be able to engage in a LEGAL, binding
- marriage contract for reasons of ease of holding title to property,
- paying taxes and receiving insurance benifits, i.e. the LEGAL side
- of marriage being just that, a LEGAL contract, recognized by the government.
-
- (What those people do or do not do, in the privacy of their boudour, is
- not the government's, the neighbor's, the religious right or the liberal
- left's BUSINESS. Period. You should NOT attempt to legislate morality.
- Doesn't ever work, and it pisses people off. )
-
-
- In regards to marriage as defined by #2, let your concience be your guide,
- and stop trying to impose your morality on other people who do not wish
- to be imposed upon. Live and let live. Forgive, love thy neighbor, and
- all of that sort of rot.
-
- 'Nuff said.

- Quotes for the day:
-
-
- Certain old men prefer to rise at dawn, taking a cold bath and a long
- walk with an empty stomach and otherwise mortifying the flesh. They
- then point with pride to these practices as the cause of their sturdy
- health and ripe years; the truth being that they are hearty and old,
- not because of their habits, but in spite of them. The reason we find
- only robust persons doing this thing is that it has killed all the
- others who have tried it.
- -- Ambrose Bierce, "The Devil's Dictionary"
-
- -----
- the mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye. The more light you shine
- on it, the more it contracts." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
