- Hi. I think my problem is either a driver bug or a weird hardware
- glitch, but maybe someone else has encountered it as well.
-
- My problem occurs when I fire off my server (see below for details)
- in 256 color mode: everything on the screen is quite blurry.
- Artifacts are left behind as if they're features and nothing is
- legible. On the bright side, I do get 256 colors, but the system is
- worse than useless. It is tantalizing. This happens regardless of
- the resolution. When I reconfig the driver to use only 16 colors,
- everything works fine, even in the high res (1024x768) mode. (Well,
- it's hi-res for me.) If you have ever experienced this and solved
- the problem, please help me out and make my world saner by helping
- me avoid color flashing and "unable to allocate color" messages.
-
- My system, if you are still interested:
- SCO Unix 3.2.4 (N.B. this is not an ODT system)
- Xsco server (This is X11R4, from sco's TLS releases. Herein, I
- believe lies the bug.)
- Trident JAX-8212 (8900C) with 1 Meg memory.
- Sony 1304hg
-
- Oh yeah, it all runs on an i486 with 8meg.
-
- I already know that the best solution would be to buy/download a
- better server, and/or buy a better card, but money and disk space
- are major limiting factors. And don't tell me to buy another OS:
- same problem there, too.
-
- Thanks for your time.
