  12. Can anyone recommend reference books that give readings for persons' names
  13. and names of places in Japan? This can be quite a problem when reading in
  14. Japanese, and I have never come across a reference book that gives such
  15. readings by the kanji. (I recognize that some readings for surnames, and
  16. particularly for given names, are quite unorthodox, but knowing the Japanese
  17. it's hard to imagine that someone has not taken on the task of cataloguing at
  18. least the few thousand most common ones.) Translators, how do you handle
  19. proper nouns you haven't seen before?
  20.     I heard that the new version of Canon's Wordtank, larger and more
  21. expensive than the one I have, supposedly includes some proper nouns. Has
  22. anyone used this or heard an evaluation of it?
  23.      Thanks for any thoughts on this subject.
