- Okay, so ISC's 3.0 is supposed to be an improvement over 2.2 - So why
- doesn't "talk" work anymore?
-
- We configured 3.0 and installed the tcp/ip package - set up a loopback
- configuration. We can get "talk" to work from virtual terminal to
- virtual terminal, but trying it across the modem lines results in a
- one-way conversation. We can talk from the console to our users, but
- they can't get anything back to us.
-
- Everything is the same as before except /etc/hosts had to be set up
- differently. Under 2.2, it looked like this:
-
- 127.1 local localhost
- 127.1.1.1 vpnet vpnet.chi.il.us
-
- Now vpnet has to be on the same line as localhosts or we'll get an
- error. 127.1.1.1 doesn't exist.
-
- Let's see, what did I leave out? Our I/O is via DigiBoard 16e same as
- before, though we're using a newer driver now. And yes, we're in init
- state 3.
