- ~ folks,
- ~ I have just bought a 386 machine and would like to run unix (i hate
- ~ using dos). I considered SysV R4.2 but can't afford the $350 price
- ~ tag? I don't care if the unix flavor is berkeley orSysV but would
- ~ like the option of running dos applications under the unix OS.

- A fast (33+) 386 with or without a 387 would be more than adequate to
- run LINUX, a free almost-POSIX unix. It is great, and is developing
- at an astounding rate. The standard distribution (which is available
- from many FTP or BBS sources) comes with the standard stuff - uucp,
- gcc, elm - and even has X! My linux system was just getting good
- when the drive I has it installed on (LINUX co-resides w/DOS, BTW)
- crashed and burned. So, until I get my new HD & motherboard, I'm SOL
- (shit outta linux).
-
- Give 'er a try!
