  14. I would like to use PostScript fonts in LaTeX since cmr is too faint
  15. for camera-ready copy.  So I read afm2tfm(1) etc, and created the
  16. virtual fonts.  Then I hacked lfonts.tex and rebuilt a new format
  17. file.  The problem is what to do about math italic.  If I leave it,
  18. then all the equations are much lighter than the surrounding text.  If
  19. I replace cmmi by cmmib, then it's better, but not perfect.  First,
  20. since cmmib is scaled, it looks bad in places.  More important, this
  21. still leaves other symbols as much too light.

  23. So then I try to use a PostScript symbol font instead of TeX's symbol
  24. font.  However PS is missing some critical info, and nothing works.

  28. My net access is tenuous (I'm really logged in from Italy with all
  29. packets passing thru 20 machines), so email is better; I'll summarize

  33. BTW, what fonts are rcommended for 300dpi printers when the output
  34. will be copied for several generations?  I'm trying
  35. NewCentury-Schlbk since Lucida is not available.  Is there a better
  36. choice?
