- The format files are the last stage of the installation in most Unix
- systems. Most installations do not use a dumped format.

- One way to use the formats is to say virtex &formatname filename
- The unix installation I use has a sneaky little feature. The virtex
- looks under what name it was called, and if that is not virtex, it
- tries to use the format of that name.

- So, for example, there is a link called glatex.fmt to lplaing.fmt,
- and a link called glatex to virtex (in the appropriate directories).
- That way, calling glatex will use lplaing as a format.
