  15. I hesitate to speak for Don or Aston on this, but I see this question about
  16. our archives about three times a week and SHSU has the same problem these
  17. sites have.  Specifically, YMIR.CLAREMONT.EDU, Niord.SHSU.edu, and
  18. tex.ac.uk are VMS machines, which archie doesn't work with (archie is just
  19. about totally focused on Unix machines).  I understand that some new
  20. version of archie (which, unfortunately, I understand to be proprietary
  21. instead of in the pd, as it is currently) is in the works which has the
  22. ability to properly poll non-Unix platforms (which is about all archie
  23. presently handles).

  25. Speaking only for SHSU on this, I would **LOVE** for archie to have access
  26. to our archives.  I feel sure that my colleagues on VMS feel similarly, but
  27. cannot absolutely say for sure and thus don't imply that this is or isn't
  28. their desire also.  Unfortunately, until the re-write of archie is around,
  29. it is technically impossible for archie to handle YMIR, Aston, or SHSU. 
  30. However, you will find Aston's daughter machine, ftp.tex.ac.uk, on archie
  31. and should soon see pip.SHSU.edu, as well (and, if I understand correctly,
  32. ymir will be supplemented by a Unix box in the near future, as well).
