  16. I am new to the TeX world. I have a .dvi file of the sample.tex from the LaTeX
  17. distribution.
  18. When I run 'xdvi sample.dvi' I am getting a message:

  20. Can't find font cmr17.
  21. Can't find font cmbx10.
  22. Can't find font cmr12.
  23. Can't find font cmti10.
  24.  
  25. and so on for more fonts.

  27. I think I pointed xdvi to the right place of the fonts using the XDVIFONTS env
  28. variable, but maybe I was wrong.

  30. My question is what kind of fonts xdvi is looking for? (.tfm, .snf, .pk ....)
