  12. A small and very naive question about tex fonts --

  14. I've been looking at pk files with resolutions of 100 dpi and 104 dpi
  15. (for reading on screen in oztex).

  17. It seems to me that the 104 fonts look better than the 100 fonts.  In
  18. particular, the capital letters of cmr12 in the 100 fonts look bold and
  19. stand out in a distracting way from the rest of the text, while the
  20. capital letters in the 104 fonts look fine.

  22. Would the difference be due to some subtle preference of metafont for 104dpi
  23. over 100dpi?  or to different methods of manufacture of the pk files
  24. (about which I know nothing) if indeed there is room for variation in
  25. the manufacture of pk files.

  27. At present I'm planning to use the 100dpi fonts because I can easily get
  28. the fonts in a number of magsteps up from 100 (110, 120, 131, 144, 173, 207).

  30. I'd like to know if I have to accept this minor imperfection or if it
  31. might be possible to find or make better quality 100dpi fonts.
