- I just installed TeX on our system, so I simply describe the way I made
- it here, and for me, it works...
- The tfm (TeX font metrics) files are the only ones needed by TeX, and
- they *should* go to the TEXFONTS directory. TeX looks into all directories
- defined in TEXFONTS when it's looking for tfm files, at least my TeX does.
- The pk files go where your driver wants them to be, I use dvips and
- created a pk subdir in the TEXFONTS directory where all pk files are
- stored. But this is entirely a question of which driver you will use,
- so refer to it's installation instructions. gf files are not needed, since
- all information contained within these files is available via the pk files.
- There is a utility gftopk, if you want to convert the gf files, but this
- is only necessary if you generated new font files using metafont. You
- will probably only need the pk300 files, because they are made for 300dpi
- devices (most laserprinters have 300dpi), but that is also specific for
- your installation.
- Hope this helps.
