  14. Update announcement for Lollipop TeX.

  16. I've just put a .tar.Z file and a (Macintosh) .hqx file
  17. of Lollipop v0.93 on cs.utk.edu in /pub/eijkhout/tex.
  18. This will be the last official update until the end of the
  19. year. This update incorporates most of the comments of
  20. users so far. There may be occasional minor updates before
  21. the end of the year, but these will upward compatible, and
  22. therefore go unannounced.

  32. What is Lollipop?

  34. The Lollipop format tries to bridge the gap between the fact
  35. that in TeX anything is programmable, and the fact that doing so is
  36. too hard for the people such as typographers,
  37. who know actually what to program. Or even for seasoned programmers.
  38.  
  39. Lollipop is a macro package that gives the user powerful
  40. tools for programming macros for lists, headings, output routines
  41. and a number of other things. The Lollipop macros take the specifications
  42. for a macro, and then construct that macro.

  44. The status of Lollipop
  45.  
  46. Lollipop is not finished, but it is already quite powerful.
  47. (It has been used to typeset my book 'TeX by Topic', for instance.)
  48. I suggest that anyone who is interested format the manual
  49. and have a look at the examples in it. They document
  50. the current power of Lollipop (really: all examples,
  51. including of output routines, are formatted on the fly).

  53. Since Lollipop is still under development I will be very
  54. accessible for questions, bug reports and suggestions.

  57. Lollipop can be ftp'ed from the directory /pub/eijkhout/tex
  58. on cs.utk.edu (log in as 'anonymous') where it is stored
  59. as 'lollipop.tar.Z'. Uncompress and 'tar -fx' it.
  60. The tar file unpacks itself to a subdirectory ./Lollipop-xyz
  61. where 'xyz' is the current version.

  63. Like a lot of TeXware, Lollipop is free. Make and give away
  64. all the copies that you want. Just don't ask money for it,
  65. other than reasonable expenses for copying discs or the manual.
