- Just like the Chesire Cat, my graphics appear and disappear. A specific
- image sometimes displays, sometimes fails to display silently, sometimes
- Frame says "Can't import/display/print some imported graphics." Sometimes
- the images print, sometimes not. Images that don't display, don't print,
- but an image that displays does not always print.
-
- Environment: Frame 3.0 in Windows 3.1, 7MB RAM, ~5-10MB free on hard disk.
- Frame is the only application running (although in Windows there may be
- several utilities humming in the background).
-
- I have a file with ~35 imported graphics at about 1-2" square each, created
- to make a master catalog of tif scanned graphics for placement in a book.
- Each file is in a cell of a single table which contains a short line of
- text for identification purposes.
-
- The problem has also happened in other files with fewer graphics, placed in
- anchored frames.
-
- It feels like memory management or a software bug in either Frame or
- Windows. It looks more like the program can't find the file with the
- graphic image than a problem in any file, the display process, or the
- printing process. But why could it find the file sometimes and not at other
- times?
-
- Particularly weird is to bring up a graphic and then a few moments later it
- is replaced by a grey hole. Or to have it reappear. Like the Chesire cat.
- Such behavior suggests that it is not the amount of memory being used, or
- available, either RAM or HD.
-
- Partial workaround: Exit Frame, Restart Frame. Print one page a time:
- success, whereas printing all 4 pages yielded only text on the printed page
- and one graphic. Even so, get message "Can't print some imported graphics"
- and "Can't display some imported graphics".
-
- Although I have scanned nearly all the 50+ illustrations in the book and
- need to complete the page makeup, unless I can solve this quickly it will
- be simpler to do manual pasteups, putting the graphics in place into holes
- made within Frame. But this would reduce my ability to fine-tune the page
- layout and sizing of individual pictures.
-
- Has anyone had this kind of dilemma on any platform and specifically under
- windows? I am suspicious of Windows because of frustrating, 3-week saga to
- discover from Microsoft that the printer driver had a bug and obtain the
- updated driver. However, I'm not seeing any error messages and the other
- functions of frame continue to work.
-
- I hope to hear from you soon; Thanks.
