- The MBP card has National Semiconductor ADC 0809, an 8-bit data acquisition
- IC, with 8-channel multiplexer. It is an Analog-to-Digital converter,
- and accepts analog (i.e., voltages from devices such as thermometers,
- detectors, sensors etc.) input through a 16-pin port at the back.
- It translates the analog into digital data, usabale on a computer.
- This is a potentially great device, unfortunately this potential has never
- been realized.
-
- The MBP card has an interesting history. It stared, I think, as a UG project
- with a real-time clock only
- somewhere in NJ, contributed to PD. MBP in Wichita, KS added the A/D/C
- and distributed the card in kit form starting around 1984. It was a very
- welcome tool for BBS's since it had a real time clock (as opposed to a
- software clock that looses time during disk access). Later the card was re-
- designed (still same components but a more professional PC Board and
- a coin battery instead of two regular 1.5V batteries) and distributed
- starting 1986 by Disk Only Software (I think...). The facts and dates above
- may be wrong as this is produced from memory. Jesse Slicer is from that
- area (KS) and may know better.
-
- Bud Mills nowadays sells this MBP clock only for $20 as an option on the
- P-GRAM card (which is a GROM emulator in RAM, like the GRAM Kracker, only
- it lives inside the PEBox). But for that one has to buy the P-GRAM card
- as well.
-
- In case anybody out there is or was using the A/D/C port, I would be VERY
- interested to learn about it.
