- Hi, supercompuer gurus:
- We are going to get a project which will allow us to burn about
- 300K to 400K for a new computer. The main task is ocean modeling,
- we are going to run several big 3 D CDF codes and water quality
- code
- on it. Currently, we have a Alliant FX/40, but this one can't
- handle this project. Basicly we are looking for 30 to 1 speed
- up relatively to Alliant Fx/40 in terms of floating point
- computation. We have tested SGI 480, dose not look promising.
-
- We have some reservations about parallel computer, we don't
- want to speed a lot of time to rewrite our fortran code to
- get the peak performance.
-
- If you have any suestions and similar experience in shoping
- for a big box, please give us some advice.
-
- Thanks a lot.
