  13. Hi, supercompuer gurus:
  14.     We are going to get a project which will allow us to burn about
  15.     300K to 400K for a new computer. The main task is ocean modeling,
  16.     we are going to run several big 3 D CDF codes and water quality
  17. code
  18.     on it. Currently, we have a Alliant FX/40, but this one can't 
  19.     handle this project. Basicly we are looking for 30 to 1 speed
  20.     up relatively to Alliant Fx/40 in terms of floating point 
  21.     computation. We have tested SGI 480, dose not look promising.

  23.     We have some reservations about parallel computer, we don't
  24.     want to speed a lot of time to rewrite our fortran code to
  25.     get the peak performance.

  27.     If you  have any suestions and similar experience in shoping
  28.      for a big box, please give us some advice.
