  11. I've recently been thinking about buying a Sun 3/something for home use,
  12. but have had little luck in finding any info on the capabilities of the
  13. various models.  Could some kind soul out there answer the following
  14. questions, or at least point me to a good reference?

  16.     0) What are the numbers for all the Sun 3 models (3/60 & what
  17.         else)?
  18.  
  19.     1) What are the MIPS and SPEC ratings of the various 3/*'s?
  20.     
  21.     2) How many and what type expansion buss slots do they have?
  22.  
  23.     3) What is the max memory with each model?
  24.  
  25.     4) What is the max amount of disk with each model?
  26.  
  27.     5) How many expansion slots are left on each model after a
  28.         frame buffer and disk controller are added (ie
  29.         how much of this stuff is on the system board) ?
  30.  
  31.     6) What is the latest version of SunOS that runs on Sun 3's ?
  32.  
  33.     7) Will that version support X? How about Motif?
  34.  
  35.     8) What are the graphics options for each model?
  36.  
  37.     9) Do they have ethernet on board? AUI or thin?
  38.  
  39.     10) How many drives can go internal in each model?
  40.  
  41.     11) How many serial ports does each model have? Parallel ports?
  42.  
  43.     12) What are reasonable prices for each model with, say a 19"
  44.         color monitor, 600Mb of disk and 16Mb of memory?
  45.         For comparison, what should a used SPARC 1+ with
  46.         the same stuff go for?

  48. That'll do for a start.  I use DECstations at work, but they seem to be
  49. a bit steeper than used Suns, so I am thinking of going with a used
  50. 3/Something at home.  I'll summarize the answers that I get to the net.
  51. Perhaps they will make a good addition to the impending FAQ for the
  52. group.
