-
- Actually I don't know how much it costs in any form other than
- prebuilt packs because that is all I am interested in. The prices are
- either the same or oddly cheaper than the prices I've gotten for
- passive terminator packs. But I never tried very hard to look
- for good pricing for passive because I was having way to many
- problems. Figure $25-50 depending on who you buy it from and
- the packaging type.

-
- Well.... yes and no. There are some politics going on in the SCSI
- groups which you can look into. Here's the deal. Go look at your
- scsi spec. Section 4.4.1 paragraph 2 subparagraph c. So you don't
- have to go dig up your manual here it is:
-
- (c) The current available to any signal line driver shall not exceed
- 48 milliamps when the driver asserts the line and pulls it to 0.5 volts dc.
- Only 44.8 mA of this current shall be available from the two terminators.
-
- Now the FPT terminator obeys this paragraph exactly. What some people
- object to is that BELOW 0.5 volts the FPT pulls a bit more current. I
- don't know how much (those docs are 500 miles away so...).
-
- You can't put one inside your sparcstation easily. You definitely
- need an soldering iron to do so. So you will have to settle with one
- and use it externally. That will work ok iff you are VERY good about
- your cables. Shield everything. Don't allow stubs. Keep them short.
-
- Disclaimer: I don't in any way make one penny from saying nice things
- about FPT terminators. I just love em and tell manufacturing to buy
- them. There is one on each machine we ship.
