- I've had problems in the past with the READ-AHEAD cache on the
- Maxtor P-17S (1.7GByte) disk under SunOS4.1.2 and have heard that
- in general any such cache should be disabled.
-
- I've just brought in a Seagate ST42400N 2.4GByte drive. It sports
- a 192kb read-ahead cache... or at least I think it does. I have it
- attached at 'esp0 target 1' on a 4/690MP.
-
- Does anyone have any wisdom or experience with regard to read-ahead
- SCSI disk caching under SunOS? And more specifically, should the
- 'format.dat' stanza for the Seagate ST42400N have 'cache = 0x00 :' or
- 'cache = 0x11 :' ?
-
- This is what I'm currently using:
-
- disk_type = "Seagate Elite II ST42400N cache disabled" \
- : cache = 0x00 : trks_zone = 19 : asect = 6 \
- : ctlr = SCSI : fmt_time = 6 \
- : ncyl = 2624 : acyl = 2 : pcyl = 2627 : nhead = 19 : nsect = 83 \
- : rpm = 5400 : bpt = 42496
-
- Thanks!
