- We've encountered a very odd problem with the dump utility. If it matters,
- we're running 4.1.3. We may have encountered this problem when running 4.1.1
- as well but didn't notice it before.
-
- We're doing nightly backups of our main file servers running shell scripts
- through cron that perform dumps and rdumps to a host that has a 2.2GB 8mm
- tape backup unit. All of the scripts perform a dump of every file system
- on the tape host first and then proceeds to the other machines.
-
- I've noticed that the backups will hang if I'm not logged in on the console
- and not running OW3.0. The backup will hang on the first dump performed.
- It's irrelevant which filesystem b/c I experimented with swapping around
- filesystems. The output of the dump indicates that the dump was performed.
- Goes all the way through to the DUMP IS DONE message. The dump process shows
- up using ps as idle and swapped out. If log in and run OW then the process
- wakes up and exits gracefully.
-
- Has anyone seen this problem before? If so, was there a solution?
