- With the help of the file emacs-sgi-patches produced by Scott Henry,
- I built the X windows version of emacs 18.58 a while back. Since that time,
- I've cast my jealous eye at a colleague using Lucid GNU emacs 19.3. It's
- apparently very similar to emacs 18.58 except that it's got mouse-related
- enhancements such as text hightlighting, cut n' paste, and the like. Those
- of my users who dislike the (keyboard intensive) emacs 18.58 may find the
- Lucid version easier to swallow. So, I retrieved the sources from
- labrea.stanford.edu.
- Upon untar'ing, I noticed that the build instructions were almost
- word-for-word the same as the straight GNU version. Being inherently
- lazy, it caused me to wonder if anyone has used or adapted Scott Henry's
- patch file to build Lucid emacs, or created a similar patch. Of course,
- I'll try the old-fashioned way as well, but that almost never goes smoothly.
- I did notice that the patch file causes the compiler to use the -cckr
- switch, while the Lucid version expects an ANSI C (gcc) compiler. If
- that's the only change, then using the patch file would be a piece of cake.
- SGI-related experiences building Lucid are solicited as well.
