- | Hi
- | We have been having a similarly weird experience with one of 5 R4K's - it
- | was fine until the video board was installed. I have found that the crashes
- | stop if I switch off all networking and run in stand-alone mode. There were
- | similar panic messages but ours were all Unrecoverable ECC errors.
- | Our local SGI people are aware of it and working on a solution, we will run
- | either with the svideo board or networking until then.
- | I will re-post if a solution becomes available - or even an explanantion 8-)
-
- It sounds to me like the wrong video driver is being used. A new
- video driver was released with 405F, and there is no guarantee that
- the older one will work, in fact, it probably won't, or we wouldn't
- have done a new one in the first place! The new driver wasn't because
- of 405F changes per se, but to fix a number of problems/limitations
- with the video stuff.
-
- The other possibility is that you have the wrong power supply, although
- I don't remember the video board by itself hitting the limitations of
- the original power supply, but I'm a bit hazy on what configurations
- had problems.
-
- Certainly for the r4k, if you got an early demo unit, the power supply
- is likely to be wrong. The officially shipped systems have the right
- powersupply.
