- I recently encountered another symptom of the same problem. I just tried
- changing my default directory and then the txt key (F4 -- which was intended to
- bring it back to c:\_dat\*.txt) would get translated back to the default
- directory again (so it was non-functional).

- I'm not sure why it's not clear to you that something is wrong. He typed in
- a specific directory manually (via navigation) and it got translated to the
- default directory unintentionally (which is certainly not desirable, since
- he wouldn't have explicitly requested that directory had he wanted the
- default directory). It is clear how this happened (since you can't tell
- the difference between a manually requested use of the default directory
- and a "default" use, but it's certainly desirable to fix) and that your options
- are limited. However, you suggest a great workaround below which can be
- used to hide, if not fix this problem for everyone.

- Great idea! In that case, might I suggest that the default bcf file
- shipped with buddy (and the built in defaults) use this trick for
- specifying all the button directories which now have *.txt as well as
- the memo default directory so that when the default directory is
- changed, the user will most likely leave the double asterisk, and both
- problems will be avoided (the txt button will work as expected and
- navigation from one of the other button directories won't cause a
- retranslation to the default directory). It would probably be advisable
- to do this with the default directories for the other applications since
- they could get into a similar situation via navigation back to the original
- default.
