- : We are running Netware NFS v1.2 on a 3.11 server and
- : are experiencing some odd problems. First, I should
- : say that this is no ordinary server. It has appoximately
- : eight thousand user accounts, and each user has a
- : directory containing five to ten files. This server
- : sees a pretty large and constant load. There are
- : frequently a hundred or more simultaneous users. The sys
- : volume containing all these accounts is a nearly full 1G
- : volume with an NFS namespace. We mount the user subtree
- : from this volume onto a Sparc 2 running SunOS 4.1.3.
- : On the Unix side, we get very inconsistent results from
- : stat system calls and ls's. If a directory is listed
- : twice within the space of a few seconds, the permissions
- : and owners of files are likely to be different from one ls
- : to the second. A stat on a file may return an error
- : for non-existance and then return a good return code
- : for the same file even though there is NO chance that
- : the file changed status. This occurs most often when
- : listing very large directories (there are some directories
- : on this server with thousands of subdirectories), but it
- : also happens on small directories when the server is
- : heavily loadedWe were counting heavily
- : on using this product, and are loathe to give up on
- : it. Has anyone else seen similar things with this
- : product? Is anyone else working it as hard as we
- : are trying to? Does anyone have suggestions for things
- : we can change about in the export or mount parameters
- : (it is currently mounted rw,hard,intr,bg,timeo=y,
- : retrans=6,rsize=8192,wsize=8192)? Thanks in advance
- : for any help you can offer.

- Have you installed patch NFS113.ZIP yet? If not then get it from Netwire
- and apply it. This patch has fixes for any NFS file service errors or bugs
- that have been encountered up to this point.
