  13. We have been using simple SMC 10BaseT concentrators to link Novell client
  14. workgroups to a thick ethernet backbone.  The simple/cheap 8-port
  15. SMC concentrators seem to work fine.  We recently purchased an Asante 10T
  16. 12 port concentrator to swap with an existing SMC and found that the clients
  17. couldn't reach the Novell 3.11 server!  I checked to make sure that SQE
  18. was turned off on the thicknet transceiver (it was off) and took a look at
  19. the Asante concentrator.  Every transmit from the client also caused the
  20. collision indicator to comeone.  Since the SMC had no other lights other
  21. than LINK, I couldn't tell what was going on.  FYI:  The ethernet cards were
  22. SMC3016TP.

  24. If standards are followed, shouldn't the Asante concentrator work if the
  25. SMC one works?
