  11. An XGATE/ CHARON question:

  13. I am trying to set up xgate and charon to act as an SMTP <-> MHS gateway
  14. for our site.  The installation, as documented in the xgate docs, went
  15. fine.  I sent a message from the PC's (using daVinci email) to the gateway.
  16. XGATE found the message and placed it in the smtp_in basket for charon.
  17. When I run charon (using XCHARON), however, I get the folowing message 
  18. sequence:

  20. unable to open TCP connection to spuntik
  21. TCP Error code is 2
  22. SNICKERS/SMTP_IN Aborting Job 4
  23.  
  24. This repeats in an endless loop.

  26. I can ping the charon gateway and it responds.  I thought this might be
  27. a permissions problem, but I can telnet to the unix box and connect to 
  28. port 25 (smtp) from any of our nodes.  The inetd.sec file is also set
  29. to specifically allow the gateway access to smtp.

  31. I am using the latest packet drivers (10.x) and have no problems using the
  32. FTP PC/TCP utilities (tn, ftp, etc..) when I load the kernel (ethdrv.exe) 
  33. into memory.  I do not load the kernel when using charon, since they both 
  34. seem to want to use software interupt 0x61.  
  35.  
  36. Is there something else I need to set on the unix box to allow the gateway
  37. access?  Is there some setting or driver that I am botching on the 
  38. gateway?  Is this a packet driver problem? 
  39.  
  40. I would greatly appreciate some help since neither the XGATE or CHARON docs
  41. list this error message.
