- The 44MB Syquest drive doesn't get along with the Maxtor 8380S (330 MB) hard
- drive, or Maxtor 8760S (660 MB) hard drive. It will cause your system to hang.
- There was a thread on the net a couple of months ago about this, but I can also
- speak from personal experience.
-
- The 88MB Syquest drive works fine with those two Maxtor's-- again from personal
- experience.
-
- The 44MB Syquest drive works fine with several Quantum hard drives that I have
- tried it with (Quantums are common with NeXTstations-- but I have a cube
- myself).
-
- Because of my experience with the 44MB drive, I would be somewhat shy about
- buying one of those. Besides, it's fairly old techology.
-
- I would probably favor a 90MB Bournelli drive over either Syquest drive (based
- purely on the word of a UofU Campus Consultant, who has tried both and reports
- that the Bournelli, in his opinion, is slightly faster and more reliable),
- except that few Service Bureau's seem to have Bournelli's. And, since I also
- have an optical drive, my only reason for getting the Syquest was to get
- Linotronic output at a Service Bureau. Hence, I didn't have much choice but to
- get a Syquest.
-
- I sold my 44MB Syquest drive a few weeks (months?) ago. I'm using an 88MB
- Syquest drive now.
-
- Also, the new 128MB 3.5" MO drives look attractive, in my opinion.
