- If you have OD's/drives and would like to extend their lives as much as
- possible.., stock up at least a few Optical Drive Filters (S3900) per
- drive while they are still available. (I bought a dozen for a few of our
- cubes with OD). If you have not replaced the filter since you first
- installed it with 68040 CPU upgrade, you should seriously consider
- replacing it ASAP. Open up the back, and see how black the filter has
- become. I would say, replace the filter at least once a year.
-
- You would be asking for early death of OD drive if you keep using a
- dirty air filter with resulting low air flow, and insufficient cooling.
-
- Don't wait until you start to get spin-up spin-downs. By then, it
- would be too late and you would most likely be throwing the whole
- thing out, data included.
-
- I like the OD for what they are, and would be happy if they can last
- a few more years.
