- Hi!
-
- A coworker of mine has encountered a really strange problem on her Mac. I'm
- stumped as to how to fix it and would appreciate any help you can offer. Here
- are the symptoms:
-
- When her machine boots, it asks for a particular (non-existent)
- floppy to be inserted. If you cancel, no ill effects seem to
- linger.
-
- I checked her disk with Norton Utils. Version 2. It reported
- a problem with 2 aliases that it was not able to repair.
-
- My Theory:
-
- Someone created aliases to files on her hard disk and placed them
- on a floppy.
-
- The floppy is now long gone, but her machine thinks the aliases
- still exist.
-
- Question is, how do I get rid of them? I have trashed the files to which the
- (missing) aliases point. TrashAlias is installed on the machine. I (foolishly)
- thought that after a reboot or two, the problem would disappear. No luck. It
- still asks for the missing floppy.
-
- I've rebuilt the desktop & even reinstalled the system (there were other
- problems on the machine that caused me to get involved in the first place).
- I've also run Disk First Aid a couple of times. It did some repair work, but
- now says everything is fine. I've even run Disinfectant -- no problems
- detected.
-
- I'm stumped! She has an si running System 7.01 with TuneUp 1.1.1. If you
- have any ideas on how to deal with this strangeness, please let me know.
-
- Please respond via e-mail and I will summarize. Note my email address is
- different than the return address of this posting; security and all ;-)
-
- Thanks in advance for your help!
-
