  12. I recently installed a SCSI extension cable between my Mac and
  13. an external hard drive, but this immediately resulted in a
  14. host of problems - I/O errors, crashes, etc. - so out it came.
  15. Most things *did* work, though, and I got positive reports
  16. from Norton Disk Doctor and Disk First Aid, though Salient's
  17. DiskTester said the disk was "unreliable" while the extension
  18. was in place.

  20. Now, the guy at the computer store where I bought it warned
  21. me that it wasn't a good idea, saying that Apple explicitly
  22. recommends against using such things. The total length of
  23. the main cable + extension was only around 12 feet or so.
