- I recently installed a SCSI extension cable between my Mac and
- an external hard drive, but this immediately resulted in a
- host of problems - I/O errors, crashes, etc. - so out it came.
- Most things *did* work, though, and I got positive reports
- from Norton Disk Doctor and Disk First Aid, though Salient's
- DiskTester said the disk was "unreliable" while the extension
- was in place.
-
- Now, the guy at the computer store where I bought it warned
- me that it wasn't a good idea, saying that Apple explicitly
- recommends against using such things. The total length of
- the main cable + extension was only around 12 feet or so.
-
- Why should this have been a problem?
-
- Thanks,
-
- Mark
