- This one is easy, just open the "About the Finder" menu item in the Apple
- Menu. The machine will tell you how much memory it thinks it has.
-
- To your question on the Macintosh SE's memory configuration:
- I own a Mac SE myself and upgraded it to 4 megs, but not 2.5. According to
- Larry Pina's "Macintosh Repair and Upgrade Secrets" book, the SE has two rows
- of SIMM slots. If you hold the logic board with the ports at the top, and the
- SIMM slots at the bottom, row 1 is the two SIMM slots closest to the top, and
- row 2 are the closest to the bottom. You *have* to put the one megabyte SIMMS
- into row 1, and the 256K SIMMS into row 2. There are *two* resistors that have
- to be removed to get the full 2.5 megs working correctly. R35 and R36. R35 is
- the resistor with "256Kbit" written next to it, and R36 is the resistor with
- "one row (only)" written next to it. make sure they both are not there (R36
- should not be there in the first place...). After cutting the R35 resistor,
- make sure it does not touch anything, in fact, cut it out, you won't be
- wanting it again later.
- Make sure that the SIMMS sit properly in the slots. As for the Carmen
- Sandiego game, make sure that it doesn't require a certain system version, or
- Macintosh Type to run. The memory setting in the get info window is the
- partition that the program will take when run in multifinder... My last
- recommendation is to disengage *ALL* of your INITs/extensions/controlpanels
- etc. Many times these will intereact badly with games.
- Lastly, the SE never hgas or will be able to support virtual by itself.
- You need at least a 68030 processor in order to use it. I would tend to think
- that the memory still wasn't in right, or that the game won't work with your
- SE. Good luck.
