- I'm trying to build a cable from a DB9 to a Mac 8-pin minicircular.
- Here's the pin-outs:
-
- DB9 8-pin minicircular
-
- 1 Carrier Detect 1 Handshake out
- 2 Recieve Data 2 Handshake in/external clock
- 3 Transmit Data 3 Transmit data -
- 4 Data Terminal Ready 4 Signal ground
- 5 Ground 5 Receive data -
- 6 Data Set Ready 6 Transmit data +
- 7 Ready To Send 7 No connection
- 8 Clear To Send 8 Receive data +
- 9 Clock/synch
-
- I understand the DB9 side pretty much, but I don't understand
- why the Mac has transmit + and -. Which do I hook the transmit
- on the DB9 to? Or is this just not going to work?
- On the DB9 I'm planning to wire 1 4 and 6 together so when it
- sends out DTR it gets back DSR and Carrier Detect. I figure
- 9 to 2 is probably a safe bet as well, but I'm not sure.
-
- Any enlightenment would be appreciated!

- More info on what I'm really trying to do: A friend has an Atari ST
- with a Mac emulator (a small box with a Mac 64K ROM in it). He wants
- to hook up a MIDI translator so he can run Macintosh MIDI software.
- The Mac emulator does talk to the Atari serial port because he can
- print from the Mac Finder. So I figure there's a good chance the
- MIDI thing might work, if I can build the right cable.

- Thanks!
