- Actually, the symptoms sound like two problems interacting -- a DOA
- charger unit and bad battery contacts.
-
- Recall that lots of posters mention that the "Battery" DA isn't
- dependable -- it fluctuates for no apparent reason. I noticed that on
- my Duo, and ignored it for a while...
-
- But only for a while. After four hours' use, the "Battery" DA still
- wasn't showing full charge, and -- much more seriously -- wasn't showing
- the lightning bolt indicating the battery was taking a charge.
-
- So, I tried flexing the case (a millimeter or so) to explore whether
- the battery contacts were working. Sure enough, the "Battery" DA wildly
- fluctuated. Time to take the battery out and look.
-
- Looking at it, I was amazed that anyone could think such an arrangement
- would work. Check it out sometime, if you have a sense of humor. However,
- *anything* can be made to work... I set out to clean the contacts. (I used
- a Pentel Clic Eraser (non-abrasive, and freshly rubbed against clean paper)
- to remove any foreign material; then a Q-tip with clean rubbing alcohol.
- (And for goodness sake, don't let your greasy fingers near any of this --
- especially the alcohol.)
-
- After cleaning, everything started working. The "Battery" DA started
- giving stable readings, and the lightning bolt was on for an hour or two.
- I rather expect it to give me trouble again in six months -- whereupon
- I'll clean the contacts again...
