I have evidence that there are problems with MIDI ... I can't get someone to
tell me what the specifics are though. Any MIDI intensive task is prone to
failure. EX a system exclusive dump, ... and timecode- direct time lock, SMPTE,
VITC,FSK. Digidesign (the largest manufacturer of digital recording boards
for the Mac) is not even going to support the ][vx at this moment in time
(that may change at a later date if Apple fixes the problem). If you want
more information from third party developers (they all agree that the ][vx has
problems with MIDI) here are the numbers. Mark of the Unicorn (developers of
Performer sequencing software) 617-576-2760. Opcode Systems Inc (developers
of Vision, Studio Vision, Galaxy, Galaxy plus, Audio shop, MAX, CUE, ETC.)
415-856-3333. Digidesign (digital audio cards for the Mac) 415-688-0600. If
you need to buy right now play it safe and spring for the ci. If you still
want the VX wait it out and see what developes.
As far as Mac bashing goes I have no intent of doing this. If I didn't need my Mac for MIDI I would buy the ][vx in a heart beat (my original order was for a ][vx 5/80 with CD ROM,
I changed my order due to the MIDI problems). It's a great deal for the money
(In my opinion a better deal than the ][ci). I am however shocked that the
new "multimedia Mac" has problems with MIDI. You would think that Apple would
have paid more attention to MIDI with the ][vx. I do not think it was Apples
intention to make a machine that had compatability problems with MIDI. TTYL,
