  20.   In the neighborhood of $300 the machine I've heard the best of
  21. is the ZyXEL U-1496E.  It's v32.bis, v42.bis, MNP 2-5, 14.4k fax
  22. S/R, and is very reliable.  The Supra 14.4K Fax modem is also
  23. really popular, but less dependable, tends to overheat, and 
  24. looses connection, of fails to connect more often than the
  25. ZyXEL or PPI (the PPI is good but expensive).

  27.   Source for the ZyXEL is Kaddy Shack (sp?) 800-638-1170 for $329.

  29.   If you want more info check out the news group comp.dcom.modems,
  30. there seems to be a constant discussion on the relitive value
  31. and dependability of various modems.  Right now the ZyXEL is 
  32. the favored, and the Supra is in the doghouse.
