-
- No, I bought my GS in 1988. (I previously owned a TI 994/a and //e)
- And yes, our Highschool was still whole-heartedly buying up Apple IIe's
- and GS's from Apple computer at the time)

-
- Not necessarily. Like you said, when you go home, you still use that ol'
- atari. Well, the same can be said about Apple II's. They may be old, but
- they are not dissfunctional. What really hurts is that they are all
- totally expandable; (My gs can run from 8-14 mhz with an accelerator card)
- you can add on to them to keep them fairly up-to-date and very useable.
- So I'm not as "bad-off" as a IIe owner, because my computer is more
- up-to-date. I use it all the time. Infact, its my only computer, and
- I'm here doing Engineering.
-
- It also hurts that Apple themselves kinda labeled the II line as
- disfunctional.... and that infuriated II owners. (their own company
- dumping on its own product that was selling well at the time) I agree
- that at some time it is "time to move on" but Apple screwed up, period.
- For the sake of Mac owners, I hope Apple Marketing doesn't do the same
- in two years.
-

-
- Ah, but /not everyone/ wanted to change to the mac. (granted, if Apple
- would have made the changeover a lot nicer, most likely, most of those
- people would have switched). But the schools that had thousands of dollars
- of Apple II equipment and software... what do you do with them? Apple strung
- them along... so the students got strung along... the whole Apple II
- "community" was strung along. (IMHO) Besides, a few years ago, the II
- was still going strong, yet Apple just told developers to "stop".
-
- If that happened to the mac, wouldn't you be a little pissed off? ;)
-
- >Then maybe so many people wouldn't be feeling betrayed right now.
-
- Many Apple II people feel betrayed because the entire II market went
- to support the developement and expansion of the Mac. Fine, the mac did
- well. BUT... Apple didn't have to dump on the II like they did. It
- infuriated schools, and now many have gone msdos clonin'.
-
- >But like I said, if you bought your machine 12
- >years ago then YOU GOT YOUR MONEY'S WORTH, now MOVE ON!
-
- True. Like I said, I have a IIgs now. I would /love/ to have a PB 160.
- But what scares me is this:
-
- 1. The quickness with which Apple comes out with new models. Ex: PB 145.
- Its obsolete now. Come Jan more models are coming out. What if a
- PB 166 came out w/ and 040 in it? Yes, I'd still have the nice PB 160
- that I purchased, but its value has definitely decreased, and boy
- would I love to have an 040 portable. (and yes, I know, its always
- impossible to keep up with technology, but still, I think there
- are many people out there who feel this same way)
- 2. What is going to hapen when the PowerMac comes out? How many
- of the /current/ macs will be thrown into obscolescence because
- of it?
-
- Oh well, that's just my $.02 worth.
