- I have installed a MicroMac 68030-25MHz accelerator into my Mac SE (FDHD
- model) and am very pleased with the results. The installation only took
- about 10 minutes and consists of opening the Mac, removing the logic board,
- pressing the accelerator card into the PDS socket and anchoring the other
- end with two screws, then reassembling the Mac. The board works immediately
- and does not delay the boot time. An init is also included as a control
- panel device that improves performance and tries to correct sound
- distortion due to the increased processing speed. No FPU is included but
- there is a socket to install one if you wish. The unit requires 4MB of 60ns
- SIMMS to prevent wait-states. Up to 16MB can be installed with Compact
- Virtual 3.0 software. The board is manufactured by NewLife. Speedometer 3.1
- ratings are as follows:(1.0=Classic) CPU=7.0 GRAPHICS=4.0 DISK=2.1 MATH=5.3
- OVERALL=4.94 which is similar to the IIci. The speed-up is very obvious
- with a very short boot-up time and init icons flash so fast across the
- bottom of the screen they are barely readable. The only problem noted so
- far was that some musical sounds are distorted in speed but others are normal.
- The cost of this accelerator was $299 plus $128 for the 4 -1MB SIMMS and
- $6 shipping (TOTAL=$433) from MacUpgrade Specialists at 800-266-3622.
