As part of a lengthy diatribe denigrating the new Macs,
Joe_D._Ciarcia@fourd.com reports:
>I have recently discovered that the ][vx (sic!) has problems with
>the serial ports and MIDI.
Regrettably, he does not enumerate the 'problems'. I've just purchased the
IIvx's close relation, a IIvi, principally for MIDI applications. I've
been running (evaluation copies of) Cubase, Encore, Lime, Band-in-a-box,
MIDI manager and anything else I can lay my hands on. I've had no problems
so far which could be attributed to the hardware.
Regrettably, unfounded speculation and the occasional untruth are all too
often circulated in this newsgroup as 'fact'. So, Joe, if you have clear,
substantiated evidence that there is such a problem, we would like to hear
that evidence. On the other hand, if your statement is simply bar-room (or
green-room!) gossip, it would be helpful if it were clearly labelled as such.
So please ... specify!

I can't be specific as of yet but, I have talked to Apple, Mark of the
Unicorn, and Opcode. All three acknowledge a problem. I am still trying to
get in touch with Digidesign. Hint.... try doing a Sysex dump that lasts more
than 2.5 minutes (Korg Wavestation, any sort of sample editing, etc.) There
is another scanning problem (I guess similar, but not related to the problems
that the Power Books have).
As I said before. The problem has recently been discovered and this is why I am not being specific. This is not "speculation" as Mr. Evans seems to think but fact. Dear Mr. Evans I am not an idiot
as you may think trying to mislead people. I am warning them of an existing
problem. I didn't just make this up off the top of my head. What is the
problem?? I have some information on the subject but not enough to draw
conclusions. At this present moment I am trying to evaluate the severity of
this situation. I have heard some very positive views, and some very negative
views. An Apple employee has been very helpful and supportive, so have the
third party manufacturers that I have contacted. If you want me to make some
sort statement here goes......... I feel that there will be some sort of
software fix developed which will solve most of the problems however there
will still be some drawbacks regarding special situations and system
exclusive....... this however is as Mr. Evans put it "speculation" ... Get the
