- Would any Powerbook Duo 210 or 230 owners please share with me their
- opinions on their new machines? Right now I'm split between getting a
- regular powerbook 160/180 and the Duo 210/230. I basically know what
- I'm getting with the 160/180 but has anyone run across any special
- problems or pet peeves with the Duo after day-to-day use?
-
- Questions I have:
-
- Powerbook Duos:
- - Overall Functionality
- - Is there some way to let the Duo function as an external HD or have
- networking capabilities without having to buy a smaller portable dock?
- (MacWorld didn't explicitly say)
- - What are memory prices like? (I need at least 8 megs to live)
- - Ergonomics? Is typing reasonably comfortable? How does the screen "feel"?
- - Compatiblilty? Will I be able to run the "beefier" applications like Adobe
- Photoshop, Macintosh CommonLISP, Think C, and Pagemaker without problems?
- I guess I should also ask how System 7.1 is also. For me, I've sworn not to
- upgrade from 7.0.1 because of all the compatibility problems with software I
- already have. A friend of mine tried it on his IIci and had so much trouble
- that he switched back in a matter of hours.
- - Does it have stereo or mono sound?
-
- Docking Stations:
- - Are there any limitations on expandibility on the DuoDock? (card
- size, power
- draw, etc.)
- - Would I be able to add an extra hard drive in the dock?
- - Does the MiniDock come with an FPU?
-
- What I'm considering now is a Duo 210/230 with DuoDock, a 14"
- monitor, an extended keyboard, and a maybe a floppy adapter or MiniDock
- (for the serial and ADB ports). I'd mainly use it as a desktop system
- while at school (like the IIci I have now) and over the summer and
- during Christmas, I'd take just the Duo and the adapter home, leaving
- the DuoDock, Monitor, and Keyboard behind in storage and save
- tremendously on shipping costs ($170 4th class!!!).
-
- Thanks

- summarize if anyone wants me too.
