- I have ca. 120 MS Word files with ca. 3000 item numbers that
- need to be periodically updated. I want to replace these
- item numbers by distinctive mnemonics (e.g. <$price of prune juice$>),
- and have a separate "key file" of replacement strings for these mnemonics.
- The built-in mail merge capabilities of MS Word looked like an acceptable
- solution, but Word dies when given far fewer than 3000 variables to replace.
- The folks at MicroSoft didn't have any useful suggestions on beating this.
-
- Since the 120 Word files are constantly being updated, I'd like to be able to
- do this on the Mac conveniently for a single MS Word file at a time. Since the
- "key file" defining the reference numbers would get occasional minor updates,
- as well as periodic massive updates (almost everything changed) I'd like to
- be able to conveniently to update a whole folder/disk full of MS Word
- files at once, too.
-
- Of course, I'd like this utility to be cheap, blindingly fast, with an
- elegant and intuitive interface ... but I'm willing to negotiate <grin>.
-
- Suggestions, anyone?
