  10. I have ca. 120 MS Word files with ca. 3000 item numbers that
  11. need to be periodically updated. I want to replace these
  12. item numbers by distinctive mnemonics (e.g. <$price of prune juice$>),
  13. and have a separate "key file" of replacement strings for these mnemonics.
  14. The built-in mail merge capabilities of MS Word looked like an acceptable
  15. solution, but Word dies when given far fewer than 3000 variables to replace.
  16. The folks at MicroSoft didn't have any useful suggestions on beating this.

  18. Since the 120 Word files are constantly being updated, I'd like to be able to
  19. do this on the Mac conveniently for a single MS Word file at a time. Since the
  20. "key file" defining the reference numbers would get occasional minor updates,
  21. as well as periodic massive updates (almost everything changed) I'd like to
  22. be able to conveniently to update a whole folder/disk full of MS Word
  23. files at once, too.

  25. Of course, I'd like this utility to be cheap, blindingly fast, with an
  26. elegant and intuitive interface ... but I'm willing to negotiate <grin>.
