  13. I just got TimesTwo v1.0 in the mail this weekend and spent a few hours
  14. installing it last night.  This is on a Powerbook 100's internal 40M 
  15. drive.  The installation is easy, but be warned, the installer writes to
  16. the original disk after the install is through. IE, the personalization
  17. info is written to the original disk.

  19. The 40M drive had 38M on it when I ran the installer.  Now the finder
  20. says that there is 59M on disk and 20.xM free.  I'm not sure why the
  21. amount on disk is higher than before, but I suspect that the fact that
  22. I had a lot of things DiskDoubler'ed and about 10M worth of Compactor
  23. archives is the culprit.  Perhaps they got bigger when x2 tried to 
  24. compress them again?  I tried out decompressing some DD files (DD init
  25. stopped working for some reason but DD App kicked in) but the space
  26. free went down as it would normally.

  28. Speed.  There is definitely a noticable slowdown in all disk accesses.
  29. This is not unbearably slow, however. Things just aren't as snappy.
  30. I'd say that it makes disk accesses look sorta like Mac Plus speeds.
  31. Hopefully, it'll be faster on my SE/030, since I have noticed that
  32. compression is one of the things that the 68000 in the PB100 is really
  33. slow at (judging from Compact Pro and DD).  Unfortunately, the drive 
  34. needs to be backed up and reformatted if you want to remove x2, so 
  35. take any benchmarks BEFORE you install!
