- I use Lightning Paint as my paint package. I don't have colour, and for a
- B&W Mac Lightning Paint compares very well with commercial offerings. It's a
- useful adjunct to Hypercard for editing background art, and is particularly
- good at allowing a "raw bits" approach. Being a programmer, I tend to think
- "Hmm, what I want to do is mask this with this, then transparent blit the
- result over here and invert..." Lightning Paint allows me to do those kinds
- of things much more easily than any other paint package I've found.
-
- I thought about commercial offerings like SuperPaint but decided against
- them. Basically, I edit everything except paint objects in ClarisWorks, so I
- didn't need all the extra goodies in the big paint packages. The other
- advantage of Lightning Paint is that it's cheap; the price was so low I sent
- more money than the author was requesting, as it wasn't worth my while to get
- US$ in tiny amounts...
-
- GIF Converter seems good, but it's expensive. More expensive than Lightning
- Paint, and all I use it for is converting from GIF to PICT and back. I'll
- probably toss it.

- I'm still trying to decide. Something about Compact Pro annoys me, but I
- can't quite work out what it is. I thought maybe Stuffit Lite would be what
- I was looking for, but Sit Lite fails dismally to display the dates on my
- files. (A list of date entries reading "1992-..." is *not* helpful.) Also,
- I'm not going to fork out money for Sit Lite unless I get the full version
- *with encryption*.
-
- I'm now wondering whether I should go for Autodoubler and Diskdoubler. Now
- that Salient have been bought by Fifth Generation, they seem to have decided
- that they don't want to rip off UK users quite so badly.

- Gatekeeper. I don't like the "all in one" approach of Disinfectant; I like
- to know exactly what I'm putting in my System folder and where it's going.
- Yes, I know *why* Disinfectant is "all in one", but I still don't like it
- myself.

- I thought Scroll2 would be exactly what I wanted, but it doesn't work with
- ClarisWorks. Damn.
-
- SuperClock is a must. The battery display feature is particularly neat on a
- Powerbook.

- I'm still looking for something that'll let me print to HP Laserjet *files*.
