- | Ok... I give up. What is the "PowerPC"? Also, does Motorola make a
- | XWindow workstation (based on the 88xxx) or just servers?
- ---
- The PowerPC is a chip architecture being jointly designed and
- implemented by IBM, Apple, and Motorola, derived from the POWER architecture
- used in the IBM RS/6000 systems. There's a fairly detailed article
- describing it in the 28 October issue of Microprocessor Report.
-
- I can't answer the first question (about Motorola support) because I'm
- not in the right part of the company and am not authorized to respond in
- that area, but I know that people *are* working on the next generation
- of the 88000 family (beyond the 88110) and that our division (which
- builds the servers you mention) is expecting to go on using the 88000
- architecture in our future products.
-
- As to workstations vs. servers, we don't build a workstation, per se, but
- we do sell X-terminals quite reasonably and when you combine the
- X-terminal with one of our smaller boxes, you have something that makes
- a pretty reasonable single-user station (it also, of course, is a
- pretty reasonable server for a bunch of users, but for a single-user it
- is especially nice).
