: My Zenith slimsport 286 has a problem. If I use the external monitor, every
: thing is fine. However, the LCD screen is not working correctly. When I
: turn it on, the screen starts out in it's normal mode. When it usually kicks
: in the backlighting, it goes from it's normal blueish tinge to a yellowish
: tinge. I can't see anything on the screen even though it's quite bright.
: Switching to the external screen allows me to check that the machine is working fine other than the lcd screen. Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas as to
: what is wrong? Any suggestions as to who could repair it (other than zenith)?
: Thanks

I have had a great deal of experience with a similar problem on Zenith
Supersports (model 181) The problem is that the video connector, which is
a flexible ribbon cable between the screen and the body of the machine, comes
loose, or develops a bad contact. On our machines, sometimes, one sees only
half of the screen, or partial characters, depending on which contact is bad.
The solution for me is to take a deep breath, open the case, locate the
connector, and reset it. The problem is that the frequent opening and closing
of the case causes a loosening of the connector.
I have also found that I can repair the problem by hitting the computer -not
