  15. I don't understand the appeal of the "upgradeable to the P24t/'586"
  16. motherboards given these points.

  18.     o An ISA motherboard, sans cache and CPU, costs < $100.  The
  19.       motherboard cost is dominated by cache memory and CPU cost.
  20.     o The "586" won't run at full speed on the existing motherboards.
  21.     o If the retail price of the 486DX is any indication, it will
  22.       cost about same to purchase the processor upgrade as it
  23.       will to purchase a processor/motherboard set.
