- Howdy--
-
- I'm considering getting a new 486 DX2/66, but I would like to be able to
- upgrade to the "P24t" -- the 32-bit bus version of the P5.
-
- Several companies (e.g., Zeos; possibly Northgate, Hyundai) offer 486's with
- ZIF sockets; at least with Zeos, the ZIF supposedly has an extra row of holes
- for the newer, larger P24t chip.
-
- Is this upgrade route just a marketing ploy? Has Intel given Zeos and others
- enough info to ensure that the P24t will actually function in the ZIF ...
- with/without major BIOS upgrades? Last year Zeos offered motherboards with
- "upgradable" processor modules, even for 486/33 systems. I now doubt they even
- offer a 486DX2/66 upgrade module.
-
- Opinions -- informed, rational or otherwise -- are welcomed.
