  12. I am holding on to my chair right now, hoping to resist going down to

  15. Creative Labs Multimedia Starter Kit - $398

  17. includes soundblaster-pro, CD-ROM drive and MS Bookshelf.

  19. Plusses: pretty darn cheap, does not include a whole pile of CD stuff
  20. of no use (just bookshelf, which is very good I have heard).

  22. Minuses: non-std CD-ROM interface, non-XA CD-ROM

  24. There are better CD-ROMs and soundcards available, but since MS
  25. Bookshelf sells for $130 at discount anyway, I am starting to find the
  26. idea of getting both the card and the drive for only $270 more .. well
  27. .. irresistable. As far as I know, the drive is a reasoanably fast
  28. multimedia compliant drive, unlike the $250 el-cheapos out there ...

  30. Is this a deal, or am I going to kick myself in a few months time when
  31. all the really good new stuff comes out and they "give" the old stuff
  32. away? I need to get a sound card soon anyway .. too much kids'
  33. software makes use of sound to avoid it, by the looks of it ..
