- Getting tired of Civ? Winning too easily? Try setting your own goals,
- not simply "winning" according to the game.
-
- In my latest game, I decided to use NO cheats and see how well I did. I'll
- still interrupt a settler to fix pollution, but I wont interrupt the same one
- more than once in a turn. Part way in, I got a bit lucky and surrounded the
- Babylonians on an island just big enough for them to have two midsized cities.
- I keep diplomats patrolling around them on sails, and buy every military unit
- they see. I'll sell anything but a granary or temple to afford them. I also
- frequently meet the king and give him any technology he asks for, since he
- keeps using them to build me better units.
-
- Since none of MY cities are closer, every unit I buy needs no support, i.e.,
- its home is "NONE" and these make great defense units. This works well with
- my cash-rich strategy. By 1900, I wasn't paying for ANY of my city defense
- units, and soon after they were building rifleman with technology I gladly
- provided. These rifleman tend to cost about $440, but then I never have to
- support them!
-
- Another idea for getting cash-rich: once you have democracy, courthouses are
- no good, but I build them in every city that has whatever it needs to prosper,
- and whenever one is completed, I sell it immediately. Since I no longer
- build my own defensive units, I'm now selling four or five courthouses each
- and every turn! I've cranked luxuries WAY up and enjoy "We love the President"
- days all the time in all but a couple of cities, and those are the ones
- that are still growing. If I used the save-game cheat or paid more attention
- to my attitude advisor, I'd avoid those as well.
-
-
- Time to decide what challenge to set next!!
