- Some SVGA cards can not double buffer the screen when operating at 640x400x256
- (Even when they have a Meg of ram).
- This means that action games ( ones that change large areas of the screen fast)
- have a lot of problems avoiding flicker.
- Taking a quick look in my copy of the "Programmer's Guide to the EGA and VGA
- Cards by Richard F.Ferraro" I see that a Trident 8900 and the ET3000/ET4000
- cards can double buffer a 640x400x256 screen. ATI VGA Wonder+ using the ATI
- 28800 chip can not (see the top of page 764).
- Perhaps the Game companies should get together and define a set of minimum
- requirements for video cards. This would be similar to the MPC Multimedia
- standard. One of the standard requirements to be GAS (Game Association
- Standard) compliant would be the ablility to double buffer a 640x400x256
- screen. _____
- Games that required the GAS standard could have a !G S! logo on the box.

- Note I believe that most of the new Mac's can double buffer at 640x480x256.
- Windoze and NT make no allowances for hardware double buffering.
